COVID-19: Olympic medalist PV Sindhu donates Rs 5 lakh each to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

World Champion shuttler and Olympic silver medalist Pusarla Venkata Sindhu popular as PV Sindhu today took to Twitter and donated Rs 5 lakh each to Chief Minister relief funds of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

On Thursday, Hyderabad born badminton player tweeted, “I hereby donate an amount of Rs 5,00,000/- each (Rs five lakhs) towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Funds for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to fight against COVID-19.”

According to the recent reports, the global death toll due to Coronavirus has reached 21,000. In India, the number of Coronavirus positive cases has surpassed 600 marks. 13 deaths have been reported in India due to Coronavirus.

PM Narendra Modi has also called for a 21 days nationwide lockdown to stop the further transmission of the disease. He has asked the citizens to stay inside their homes.

All over the world, there are more than 4,00,000 people who are infected by Coronavirus. Due to this pandemic, major sporting events across the world have been suspended including the Tokyo Olympics which were scheduled to begin from July 24.

Other than the Olympics, NBA 2020 is also suspended. Major Cricketing event- Indian Premier League is also postponed. Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has also decided not to conduct any tournament amid Coronavirus pandemic. BWF also suspended the world tour and other tournaments due to Coronavirus.

2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu has secured a spot to play in the next Tokyo Olympics based on her current rankings.
