21-yeard-old Harnaaz Sandhu won the Miss Universe 2021 title for India after 21 years. At the young age of 21, Harnaaz Sandhu has made the whole nation proud. It has been more than two decades that someone from India won the title of Miss Universe.
Harnaaz Sandhu from Chandigarh won the 70th edition of the coveted beauty pageant. The event happened in Eilat, Israel. On this global stage, She won the competition and defeated women from 80 different countries.
The event was held in the middle of the night till 5:00 am local time to accommodate the prime time schedule in the US. Steve Harvey was hosting the show and Bollywood beauty diva Urvashi Rautela was on the judging panel.
On Sunday, Harnaaz Sandhu created history as her predecessor Miss Universe 2020, Mexican Model Andrea Meza, crowned her.
After winning the title, Harnaaz Sandhu said, “I am immensely grateful to the Almighty, my parents, and the Miss India Organization for guiding and supporting me throughout. Loads of love to everyone who prayed and wished the crown for me. Bringing the glorious crown back after 21 years is a moment of greatest pride.”
Harnaaz’s final answer for the victory
In the final round, Harnaaz Sandhu was asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressure they face today.
To this, Harnaaz Sandhu replied, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself with others and let’s talk about more important things that’s happening worldwide. This is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourselves because you are the leader of your life, you are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that’s why I am standing here today.”
Harnaaz Sandhu’s road to success
Harnaaz Sandhu belongs to Chandigarh. She was born and raised up in Punjab.
Currently, she is pursuing her master’s in public administration. She went to Shivalik Public School and now pursuing her master’s from Post Graduate Government College for Girls.
From the age of 17, Harnaaz started competing in beauty pageants. She has won titles such as Miss Chandigarh 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018.
In 2019, Harnaaz won the title of Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and then she competed in Femina Miss India. She was amongst the top 12 contestants.
Sandhu has also worked in Punjabi movies like “Yaara Di Poo Baaran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange”.
Before Harnaaz Sandhu, famous Bollywood actresses Sushmita Sen and Lara Datta has won the title in the year 1994 and 2000 respectively.
