An eminent economist will now help the students of UPES excel and reach their goals. UPES Dehradun has announced the appointment of Dr Subhashis Gangopadhyay as the Dean of its School of Liberal Studies.
Dr. Gangopadhyay will work towards the growth of the new school, driving academic excellence, faculty development and engagement, and industry connection.
It is to be noted that Dr. Gangopadhyay is not only a distinguished economist. He is also the founder and director of the India Development Foundation. Dr. Gangopadhyay has had a number of significant achievements during his career.
He has been the advisor to the Union Financial Minister, P Chidambaram in the rank of Secretary, Government of India. Moreover, he had been an Advisor to the Competition Commission of India. Dr. Subhashis was also a member of the Government of India’s high-powered Committee on Defence Land, 2017-18.
Dr Sunil Rai, Vice-Chancellor, UPES expressed his happiness for the appointment of Dr. Gangopadhyay. He said, “With a vision to offer truly transdisciplinary education, we are introducing School of Liberal Studies at UPES. Dr Subhashis Gangopadhyay, with his vast knowledge and experience in diverse fields, will help in taking this vision forward. We are confident that under his leadership School of Liberal Studies will emerge as an outstanding school and be known for its academic excellence and unique learning experience”.
Dr Gangopadhyay has led major research projects, including on patent laws, skilling women, small businesses, and digital preparedness. Prior to joining UPES, Dr Gangopadhyay was the founding Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Shiv Nadar University.
