Twins born during the lockdown, parents name them ‘COVID’ and ‘Corona’
A couple from Raipur district of Chhattisgarh has named their newborn twins as ‘Corona’ and ‘COVID’ as they were born amid Coronavirus pandemic.
These two words may evoke fear amongst others but the couple reportedly said that these names would remind them about the hardships they faced amid the lockdown and their birth.
The twins, a boy, and a girl were born in the early hours of March 27 at a Chhattisgarh government hospital.
COVID (boy) and Corona (girl)
However, the couple also said that they might change their kid’s name in the future. The 27-year-old mother of the newborns reportedly said, “I was blessed with the twins- a boy and a girl- in the early hours of March 27. We have named them COVID (boy) and Corona (girl) for now.”
Further, she said, ” We faced many difficulties before the delivery. So, I and my husband wanted to make the day memorable. Indeed, the virus is deadly but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names.”
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, the couple lives in a rented house in Raipur. On March 26, the mother experienced severe labor pain in the night. And her husband somehow managed to arrange an ambulance. Because of the lockdown, there was no vehicular movement allowed. Because of that, they were stopped at many places between their way to the hospital. But the police let them go after noticing her condition.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital reportedly said the mother and the newborns were discharged recently. And they were in good health. Within 45 minutes of their arrival, the delivery was done.
The twins had become a center of attraction as the couple named them Corona and COVID.
