New Delhi, India – A real estate dispute turned into a story of digital empowerment when New Delhi–based entrepreneur Mahima Jalan managed to recover her ₹10 lakh investment from a Noida-based builder, thanks to the reach of social media.

Jalan revealed her experience in a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), where she credited the platform for helping her claim her rightful refund after months of silence from the real estate company.

Investment Gone Wrong & real estate dispute arise

Jalan and her father had invested ₹10 lakh in a commercial project in Noida, which was later cancelled. Despite repeated follow-ups, the company allegedly ignored their requests for a refund for over four months.

Even personal visits to the company’s office did not yield results, as the father–daughter duo failed to get in touch with the director.

“I emailed the director tagging all the authorities but no response. Even messaged their senior people on LinkedIn but no reply. We felt stuck,” Jalan wrote on X.

Social Media As The Turning Point

Frustrated by the deadlock, Jalan took to direct messaging the company’s director on X, who maintains a strong online presence. The move worked.

She soon received a call from the builder’s team assuring a refund within 10 days. True to their word, Jalan received the amount in her bank account on the 10th day. In fact, she added that the company also delivered a cheque to her home within four days.

“That’s when I decided to use Twitter. I DM’d the director of the company who has a decent presence here. Next day, I got a call from his team. They promised the refund in 10 days. On the 10th day, I got the money in my bank. Not just that, they delivered the cheque at my place in 4 days. Thank you X for helping me recover my money,” Jalan concluded in her post.

Netizens React

The post quickly struck a chord with users online. Many applauded Jalan’s persistence, while others suggested she reveal the builder’s identity to prevent similar incidents.

One user wrote:
“You should tag that director here so other people can stop becoming victims of scams like this if they don’t have following like yours.”

Another commented:
“Wow, what a stressful situation! It’s inspiring how you persisted and found a solution. This is a fantastic reminder for everyone to leverage their networks and public platforms. Have you considered sharing this with any consumer advocacy groups? Congrats on the successful recovery!”

A third reaction stated:
“It’s good that you recovered your money but you should mention the real estate firm’s name so that others don’t fall prey to them.”
